Jackson's My Body
I really loved this for several reasons:
1.) I liked that there could be an order to it all. (I'm from a military background, so order and neatness is a big PLUS for me.) If I wanted, I could click on something, and then go back and click on the next body part. But, I also liked that I could make my own journey through the work--clicking whatever phrase or bodypart that interested me.
2.) It made me realize that our bodies are kind of our own little personal journey without even knowing it. It made me very aware of my different scars, and my fingers, and my freckles.
3.) She mentioned Falls Church, VA! It's always nice to see a fellow native make it "big".
I was a little uncomfortable with the very frank language she used to describe more private parts, but I was admiring that she was able to speak of herself so frankly and honestly.
Michael Joyce Twelve Blue
I had mixed reactions about this piece. It was like "My Body" in that the reader was able to create their own "narrative", but it was unlike that work in thath there seemed to be no one common, overlapping theme. (At least that I could tell.) With "My Body", I knew that no matter where I clicked, I would be reading a story or explanation or description about the reader's body. In "Twelve Blue", I would skip from a girl named Delores to carnies to...I don't even know. I did get very lost and very confused. I'm ADD to begin with, so I quickly lost interest.
The prose was well-written, but I don't know if this piece was for me. Perhaps I'm not intellectual enough. I liked "My Body" better, mostly because I always knew what was going on.
Moulthrop's Reagan Library
I didn't like this very much, nor did I spend much time with it. I couldn't distinguish even a common thread of plot or narrative. It seemed very fantastical, but also very...crazy. I couldn't make any sense of it at all, so I clicked around for a few minutes to read some of his prose.
Hopefully I can get the last two readings to work on my computer. I hope they will be as fun as I thnk they will. So far, though, the best one was "My Body".
