What is Narrative?

If a teacher were to call on me randomly in class to define this, I would probably confidently rattle off my answer. Now that I have to actually write it down, I feel like I'm under immense pressure to be sure it is right.

Okay. Here we go.

To me, the narrative is the framework in which an author tells his (OR HER!) story. While it can be impersonal (just the facts, ma'am!) or omniscient (like God. haha.), it's usually (my favorite) influenced by the main character. It's influenced by how this particular character (or author, if one is going for the former approaches) views the world, people, and events around him. Within this biased (or unbiased) narrative, descriptions, actions, and dialogue emerge.
